WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will announce Monday {that a} CIA counterterrorism strike in Afghanistan killed al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, two sources accustomed to the matter advised NBC Information.
The strike “was profitable and there have been no civilian casualties,” a senior Biden administration official stated earlier, with out confirming the identification of the goal. The official spoke on the situation of anonymity.
Biden is slated to talk from the White Home at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Sunday’s drone strike is the primary identified CIA counterterrorism operation since Kabul fell to the Taliban final 12 months.
