The federal government on Tuesday stated sugar exports elevated 39 per cent to 10.5 million tonnes (mt) throughout the 2021-22 fiscal from the earlier 12 months, whereas rice exports— Basmati and non-Basmati varieties—surged 19 per cent to 21.23 mt.
Talking within the Lok Sabha on agri exports, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar stated the demand for natural merchandise from India is constantly growing within the international market. As such, the amount of natural merchandise exported throughout 2020-21 was 0.89 mt towards 0.64 mt throughout 2019-20, up by 39 per cent, he stated in a written reply.
Edible oil exports down
Although India has been importing near 60 per cent of its vegetable oil necessities, exports of edible oils throughout the fiscal had been 98,365 tonnes, down by 67 per cent.
