Torrential rain accompanied by sturdy winds wreaked havoc in numerous elements of Wayanad district on Tuesday. Regular life in lots of areas was affected after low-lying areas have been inundated.

Kozhikode-Kollegal Nationwide Freeway 766 has been inundated at Ponkuzhi on the Kerala–Karnataka border. Site visitors has been disrupted within the Periya ghat part of the highway on the Mananthavadi-Kannur State Freeway. Reportedly, site visitors on the nationwide freeway was partially restored within the night.

Wayanad District Collector A. Geetha directed the secretaries of all civic our bodies to shift households who have been residing in disaster-prone areas within the district to safer locations.

The entry of holiday makers to all vacationer locations within the district was banned and house owners of resorts, lodges, lodges and homestays in hilly areas have been directed to alert vacationers who’re staying of their properties and guarantee their safety .

The district administration has issued an advisory to the general public within the wake of the purple alert issued by the India Meteorological Division (IMD) within the district on Wednesday and Thursday.

Vacation declared

Ms. Geetha declared a vacation for all academic establishments, besides residential faculties, within the district on Wednesday.
